Child Porn Case Shuts Down Daycare, Sends Man To Jail

Full story and MySpace profile:

A Newark man apologized before being sentenced Tuesday to more than eight years in federal prison for possessing thousands of child pornography images, including pictures he took of an 8-year-old girl enrolled in a day care center run by his mother out of their home.

Tony Pooya Aflatooni, 28, apologized to the government and his family, saying he looked forward to being treated for his addiction and returning to society to be with "adult women or whatnot."

"What does that mean?" U.S. District Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong asked at a hearing in Oakland, referring to "whatnot."

"I'm sorry," Aflatooni replied. "I want to get over this addiction I do have -- this desire -- and hopefully progress to adult women, not to have an attraction to young women, through therapy."
After the home was searched Nov. 30, Aflatooni tried to leave the country by boarding a plane to Paris and then catching a connecting flight to Iran, authorities said. He returned to the United States after Iranian authorities denied him entry because he didn't have a visa.

Aflatooni used his digital camera to take nine pictures of an 8-year-old girl who until recently had been in care of his mother, Shahegheh Aflatooni, who operated a day care center from their home on the 36000 block of Spruce Street in Newark, authorities said.

Aflatooni admitted to investigators that it was his hand shown in two explicit photos pulling aside the child's underwear, investigators said. Authorities said they also found six pictures of a girl, age 7 or 8, that focused on her panties and had been taken by his camera in 2004. The girl was sitting on what appeared to be Aflatooni's bed playing video games, prosecutors said.
