Cop Goes To Jail For Sex Offenses

A former Clifton police patrolman charged in a 2006 Internet sex sting was sentenced Friday to 90 days in the Passaic County Jail and a lifetime of parole.

Mark Fernandes, 30, must register as a Megan's Law offender and will serve his term at the county jail on weekends beginning later this month, under sentencing by state Superior Court Judge Marilyn Clark in Paterson.

Fernandes forfeited his position with the Clifton Police Department since pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.

Fernandes, of Midland Park, had been charged in April 2006 with attempted sexual assault of a child after sending sexually explicit messages online to someone who he thought was a 12-year-old girl.

As with all my post here, Mr. Fernandes has a MySpace profile (or did) and you can find that along with the original story on the main site.
