Former LAPD Officer Sentenced For Molesting Teens, Used MySpace

A former Los Angeles Police officer was sentenced to 11 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually molesting teenagers, including members of the department's Explorer program for youth.

George Stan, 37, pleaded guilty to 15 felony counts of oral copulation and sodomy, said Ventura County senior Deputy District Attorney Anthony Wold.

The charges were reduced from 30 felony counts as part of a plea agreement.

The Los Angeles Police Department began investigating Stan in January 2005 after a minor told department officials he had sent inappropriate Internet communications.

At the time, he was working with the Explorer program, which introduces teenagers to careers in law enforcement.

Investigators claim Stan engaged in multiple sex acts with seven minors, some of whom participated in the Explorer program. They said he contacted others through the social networking Web site MySpace.com.
