Man Accused Of Forcing Teen To Be Prostitute

A Richmond man has been charged with forcing a 16-year-old girl to work for him as a prostitute in Contra Costa and Marin counties, authorities said today.

Melvin Parker Jr., 32, appeared before U.S. Magistrate James Larson in San Francisco on a charge of sex trafficking of a minor.

Parker was arrested after San Rafael police Officer Scott Eberle stopped the girl in an area known for prostitution Aug. 9, an FBI special agent wrote in an affidavit.

Parker and the girl had communicated over the Internet through the MySpace Web site and by cell phone while she was living in Washington state, authorities said
