Police: Man Arrested In Rape Of Girl, 8

Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a sexual battery case Wednesday afternoon at Central Oak Park on Dartmouth Avenue and 40th Street North.

Police arrested 18-year-old Henry Sengaroun Thursday afternoon. He’s being held on a charge of capital sexual battery.

Police officers and volunteers spent much of Thursday handing out sketches of a suspect who sexually battered an eight-year-old girl in broad daylight.

A community police officer first identified Sengaroun as a possible suspect. He was arrested at a home on 15th Avenue North. On his way to jail, Sengaroun denied committing any crime.

Police say they first talked to Sengaroun Wednesday night but didn’t have enough evidence. But then the young victim picked him out of a photo lineup.

And investigators believe a t-shirt recovered near the crime scene belongs to Sengaroun. A witness says the suspect left the shirt as he ran through her yard, being chased by a neighbor.

Police say the 8-year-old victim was released from the hospital Wednesday night, and she’s going to be ok.
