Police: Student Set Fire To Professor's Home

"I'm very excited about getting an eye for an eye."

Those words were penned in a letter by Garrett M. Alder, a 25-year-old East Hampton man who tried early Thursday morning to burn down the Pennsylvania home of a college professor, according to Jim Childs III, chief of a regional police department in southern Pennsylvania.

Alder, reportedly expelled from Loyola in 2005 for a disciplinary problem, was being held with bail set at $1 million on assorted felony charges, including three counts of attempted homicide and arson.

Police in Pennsylvania say Alder tried to kill college professor Bradley Thomas Erford and his two children and then commit suicide by overdosing on prescription drugs.

Firefighters dispatched to the fire at 6:43 a.m. found the Erford family unhurt.
