A Palm Beach County substitute teacher was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with sexually assaulting a minor at Pahokee Middle-Senior High.
The teacher, Heather Lea Burroughs, 23, was working in the school's "exceptional student education" program when she allegedly performed a sex act on a student in an empty classroom during school hours Friday.
Burroughs, who lives in Pahokee, has been working as a substitute in the district since July and has no state criminal record. She could not be reached for comment.
If convicted of the first-degree felony, Burroughs could face up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
