Two Accused Of Sex With Minors

Two 19-year-old men face felony sexual-assault charges for allegedly having consensual sex with two girls, ages 14 and 15, they had met on the popular social networking Web site Myspace.com.

Jaden D. Franklin, of 26 Newtown Ave., North Kingstown, and Joshua R. Ortiz-Fisher, of 54 Deer Trail Rd., South Kingstown, were arraigned in District Court, South Kingstown, yesterday on charges of third-degree sexual assault. They were ordered to have no contact with the girls and released on $10,000 personal recognizance.

At 2:45 yesterday morning a car driven by Ortiz-Fisher was stopped by Narragansett police for a traffic violation, according to a police report. Sitting in the car were the two teenage girls, 14 and 15, and Franklin. The police also found two used condoms, open bottles of alcohol and a pipe that had been used to smoke marijuana, according to the report. The men were arrested and held overnight.

The police said they believe the girls first encountered the men about a week ago on Myspace.com, a Web site that boasts it has more than 50 million members and a minimum user age of 16. Many parents and school administrators are worried that sites like Myspace put children at risk of revealing too much personnel information or establishing dangerous relationships.
